STSC Online Course

Coaches must first complete Online Content on the Red Cross website. To do this:

  1. Go to http://www.redcross.org/ux/take-a-class.
  2. In the Find Classes dialog box, select Aquatics and click the Find Classes button.
  3. When results appear, click Edit My Choices at the top. A Choose Your Preferred Classes page appears.
  4. Check Safety Training for Coaches and uncheck Lifeguarding. Then click the Show Search Results button. The Results page slides up into view.
  5. Scroll down to the last entry in the Results page. It should be Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only. Click Take This Class.
  6. Follow the instructions to pay $19 to the Red Cross and launch the Online Course.
  7. Complete the Course and print out the Completion page.

In-Water Session

If you have a current Red Cross Lifeguarding or Shallow-Water Lifeguarding certification, you only need to complete the Online Content Only. When showing your qualifications to USA Swimming officials and marshals, you must show both a current Lifeguarding certificate and the Safety Training for Coaches Online Completion.

If you do not have a current Lifeguarding certificate, you need to meet with an instructor to complete in-water skills. Use the Training Request Form to get a Water Safety Guy instructor to come to your location and complete this training.
