Lifeguarding Classes

Lifeguarding prepares you to do the job of a swimming pool lifeguard by giving you the following certificate: Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED (valid for 2 years). Other Lifeguarding courses include Shallow Water Lifeguarding, Waterfront Skills, and Waterpark Skills.

A9R9C4REQUIREMENTS: For Lifeguarding and Waterpark Skills, be at least 15 years old; able to swim 300 yards continuously using the front crawl or breaststroke; able to tread water 2 minutes using legs only; and able to retrieve a 10-lb object from 7-10 feet and swim with it for 20 yards using legs only in 100 seconds or less. (For Waterpark Skills, the participant must also hold a current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate.)

For Shallow Water Lifeguarding, be at least 15 years old, able to swim a 100 yards, able to tread water 2 minutes (legs only), and able to retrieve a 10-lb object in shallow water and walk it back to the starting point in 50 seconds or less.

For Waterfront Skills, be at least 15 years old, hold a current Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate, able to swim 550 yards, able to tread water for 2 minutes (legs only), able to retrieve a 10-lb object from 7-10 feet and swim with it (legs only) for 20 yards in 100 seconds or less, and able to swim underwater for 15 yards underwater and retrieve 3 objects.

OPTIONS: Lifeguarding and Shallow-Water Lifeguarding have a Blended Learning and Review Course options. These options shorten the in-class portions of the course.
