Lifeguards have frequently been the subject of cartoons, including some with real vintage characters like Betty Boop, Mickey Mouse, and Popeye the Sailor!

- King Feature’s Syndicate: Popeye the Lifeguard (1960) - mentions the Buddy System and Life Rings; also has a great catch line: “The word ‘Help’ is a lifeguard’s bread and butter.”
- Centrala Wyanjmu Filmow i Telewizja Polska: Rex Lifeguard (1975; Polish cartoon) — very cute; uses no dialog but gives a good message in a fun way.
- BobFox: Lifeguarding: A Documentary (2009) — Hilarious; some language and a baaaad attitude!
- aniboom.com: Lifeguard (2007) — A unemployed superhero works as a lifeguard; this shows the dangers of excessive ventilations!
